The Hype Machine is pretty much the best thing on or off the internets. It's a constantly updated internet listening post, playing tracks new and old, respectfully plundered from a tremendous list of audioblogs. It swallows huge chunks of my attention. It's a wonder I ever get anything else done.
Today, the Hype Machine has given me much Gil Scott Heron, an artist I recognise obviously by The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, but is not someone I've investigated beyond that. So, I searched for more entries featuring Gil Scott Heron and have since been happily filling my ears.
Mr. Scott Heron appeared this morning on the Hype Machine courtesy of Souled On, whose Souled On Samples entries are simply brilliant. It's nigh-on impossible to encounter a new chart hip-hop track that doesn't sample an older song, and Souled On knows who's cribbed from who, and has the mp3s to share. Fan-fucking-tastic.
I like to play internet music using Songbird, an open-source desktop media platform.
