Club events, unique design and potent bands: No Pain In Pop is fast becoming one of London's most significant labels. Monday will see the release of NPIP's first 7" - something of a coup, in fact - the stunning Chrome's On It by New York electronic duo Telepathe, who're already collecting blog hype on a massive scale since their Sinister Militia EP last year.
"Chrome's On It" is a woozy, punchdrunk samurai lovesong, built around filtered drums and looped vocals. With a melody recalling Eastern musicology, it wouldn't sound out of place as an anime soundtrack; something with flashy spaceships, old-school swordfights and no tentacle-rape.
The b-side is by South London dubstep collective Sunni-Geini, their "Sunni-Geini Main Theme". You'll have to click through to their Myspace for a listen, but it sounds to me like Kode9 duelling with Autechre under the influence of many Kompakt compilations, and doesn't that sound fuckin' awesome? Yes, it does.
