Black, Blacker, Blackest.

Actually, Black Affair strikes me as whiter than a bukkake-drenched albino; quite aside from the fact it features one ex-Beta Bander (Steve Mason), but even Jimmy Edgar's brand of pseudo-Prince sleaze is curiously paler, and significantly more geeky than one would expect. While it is, as hyped, a great big 80s underground retrofest, I can't help but notice how fashionably 8-bit everything sounds. Of course, 8-bit/chiptune is massive right now, but as a personal preference, I wish Edgar would return to his minimal roots (Michaux, Kristuit Salu); in terms of the impact of this album, he's unlikely to be worrying Crystal Castles or even hardened chip veterens like Nullsleep.

Still, Pleasure Pressure Point is all right. I'd probably rank it second to that other Anglo-American supercollaborative retrofest, Stainless Style, which isn't something I particularly love, admittedly.

Listen to Mute Me, anyway.
